Marketing: What Should Be The Primary Function Of A Manager ?


Everything in an organization, enterprise, small business exists in two states.

Two States


1.      Actual State
-Worse
-Poor
-Fair
-Good
 

2.      Ideal State


A Marketing Manager or any Manager for that matter primary duty/function is to move things from actual state to ideal state by conducting continuous feasible tweaks, improvements, enhancements in all activities that are part of his organization, department, team, job description.

Now some may wonder, okay … “sounds reasonable but how ?!…” exactly, I don’t doubt  that most of you guys don’t know how to do that but still we have new guys becoming part of managerial hierarchy each day and I believe those guys need a little guidance…

So let’s discuss the how part

The "How Part ?"

You as a Manager/Officer/Assistant Manager need to have

1.      Full Understanding/Grip On Actual State Of Things
And to have that kind of understanding, you need to read about it (online/offline journals, books, magazines, literature), research (qualitative/quantitative) when required, discuss (with colleagues, friends, family), observe, rationalize, think about it (careful logical objective introspection) so on and so forth…

2.      Full Understanding/Grip  On What Should Be Ideal State
And to have that kind of understanding, you need to read about it (online/offline journals, books, magazines, literature), research (qualitative/quantitative) when required, discuss (with colleagues, friends, family), observe, rationalize, think about it (careful logical objective introspection) so on and so forth…

3.      Full Understanding/Grip On How To Take Things From Actual State To Ideal State Efficiently & Effectively.
And to do this, you need to read about it (online/offline journals, books, magazines, literature), research (qualitative/quantitative) when required, discuss (with colleagues, friends, family), observe, rationalize, think about it (careful logical objective introspection) so on and so forth…

And then implement and assess from time to time… see if things are moving in the right direction if not REEVALUATE, IMPLEMENT and again ASSESS. Keep doing it until you receive desired/ satisfactory/required results.
